MENTORING

Today something I have thought about for a long time I came to a decision.  Over the past 30 odd years I have always been willing to offer my time and what little knowledge I have garnered of this complex sport and art of dog showing and breeding.  Many people have happily picked my brain and I was happy to have them do so.

But as the years have gone by I have noticed the society is changing as a whole and even in our dog game.  People are less appreciative and have no loyalty to their mentors.

So, since I am 65 years old and who knows how many years I have left, I am going to be much more careful of whom I will honor with my time.  I understand the new person coming into this is full of questions and think nothing of picking up the phone no matter the time of day and taking an hour of your time or more...on a never ending basis sometimes.

Consideration should be taken by people to understand...we all have lives outside of dogs and ask your questions and then get off the phone or email or whatever.  And if you do call and take up our time, please be smart enough to listen to what we tell you.  After all, it took us YEARS and THOUSANDS of dollars to learn the lessons we have learned.

That's my soapbox for today.
