Friday May 28, 2010 Doggie News

Just heard from my sister, Ivy, that her bitch Chilly won WB in Tulsa, OK under Peter Green. Betsy Owens is handling her. Chilly is looking for a few singles to complete her title so we'll hope she picks up a few more this weekend.

News from Canada ... Frankie's daughter Penny has been racking up Breed wins after her quick finish. But yesterday she gets to add being a Group 4 placer to her list of accomplishments. Frankie is the sire of a very limited number of puppies but has had some big winners in those few. Watch for his get in shows near you. I am such a small breeder that he is seldom bred. I will be breeding him to a Blaze of Glory Granddaughter this summer. I am very excited to see that breeding (actually the bitch is River's dam...exciting).

Lucy Wins 3 Point Major Saturday

First of all, I'd like to give thanks to a nice lady sitting ringside by the name of Cythia for taking a few candid shots of me and my chi's. This photo is courtesy of her forwarding these photos on to me.
Little Miss Lucy (Lamars The Closer) is on a roll...won both days last weekend and now Saturday May 20 at Gardner KS she won her first major. Lucy has been a challenge to get trained. She is such a gorgeous girl that every time I take her anywhere I have offers to buy her. But last fall as a baby, I was so excited to show her because I knew she'd kick butt in puppy class. Well, we got to the big Kansas City shows and she pancaked...became a dust mop! So I didn't show her. Put her away for the winter to let her get her head squared away (at home she was totally fine on lead).

Then this Spring she decided that maybe we could walk at the shows but we had to walk where she wanted to! So that didn't work either. She would be pulling off and not going anywhere that the lead was trying to take her!

Finally it has clicked in her little mind...that at least part of the time...she should go where the lead is taking her. lol She definitely has a mind of her own. She still only goes around part way correctly and then starts trying to take short cuts. She is definitely challenging of one's patience...I will give her that.

Sugar Whelped May 19, 2010

Sugar free whelped 3 tiny mites on Wednesday. the two white ones are boys and the spotted is a girl. All will be 'On Hold' here until we evaluate them. Two for sure will stay since I don't have anything out of Sugar's previous litters. I was always a softie and let people talk me out of them. So I am hoping the girl for sure turns out. Right now they just look like little mice...a big puppy for Sugar is 3 ounces! The little guy I don't think even tipped the scale at 2 ounces...
One thing about her babies tho...no matter how tiny they come out hunting and eager to eat and she has such high milk production with lots of milk fat...it doesn't take them long to look like miniature piglets!

River's Win Photo

Here is a photo of River taking his first two points. Then two weeks later he wins both days for another two points. He is a very showy and sound puppy with a pretty head.
River may be for sale when he finishes..he is such fun to show I thought I might keep him and show him and then sell him. I don't really need two males and I have Frankie here. But I would consider selling him before he finishes if I was guaranteed he'd continue on showing.

Mom Passed Away Sunday Evening

Some of you know that I was taking care of my Mother had Alzheimers and I was taking care of her for almost two years now. She passed away rather quickly last night. One thinks you are prepared for the passing of a loved one but then you find out you aren't. I just wanted to share this because I know I won't be talking to some of you for a while. I know many of you have prayed for her over the months and years and I do thank you for that. Gayle

Lucy and River Win Over The Weekend

We went to the shows in Rock Island, IL on this weekend and had some wins. One needs a weekend once in a while that goes well because as we all know...one loses more than they win usually! River is a 6-9 puppy who has won 3 out of 4 of his shows so far. He is a fun boy to show. He also won a Puppy Group 4 on Saturday.

Lucy has finally decided dog showing can be fun and won both days also. It took her a while to get her little brain focused on the task at hand!

Sugar should be whelping any day. Anxious to see those babies.

May 3 My 45th Anniversary

Boy time flies. I can't believe I am so old that I have been married 45 years. Granted I was married pretty young and married my high school sweetheart. But 45 years is a long time and in this society we live in any more with marriages barely lasting long enough to get out of the church, I feel pretty blessed.

Didn't do any better than Reserve on Sunday but for River's first shows I can't complain. We need to get some training in so that means I gotta get motivated and get after it!

Chuckie, the sire of Sugar's upcoming litter won BOV in smooths both days and most outstanding was he made the cut in group both days. He just turned a year old and just starting his Specials career...watch for this boy to be in the Top Ten very quickly.

I will be getting a full brother to Chuckie in a month so I am pretty excited about that.

RIVER TAKES 2 POINTS TODAY

I haven't been to a dog show in over a month and my poor dogs haven't been to any training classes either. But then that isn't unusual for us. It seems I can't make myself drive the 65 miles to class once a week. So the dogs just have to like showing and go in and do it.

River is just a puppy and showed like a dream. I think the judge was even contemplating putting him up over the Specials but I am happy he didn't. You might think that odd, but it isn't really because a dog of my breeding was one of the Specials and he wont he BOV and got pulled in Group! So I was very proud of both boys.

Lira, my smooth girl...also a puppy, won her class and showed better than I expected her to and Lucy, my l/c girl...12-18 month girl won her class and surprised me and strutted around the ring and actually stayed on the mat. Lucy is gorgeous but has been a real trial for me to get trained. Maybe if finally clicked in her little brain.
