Chavonne and Bubba

I just had to share this photo of my beautiful 2 year old granddaughter Chavonne and her best buddy, Bubba Louie! Chavonne pushes Bubba around in his own stroller daily (he jumps right in when she asks him to). He also rides along with her in her stroller and they get the smiles as they go down the street.
Now Chavonne has decided he makes a great swinging buddy. Bubba takes it all in stride and figures it is all in a days work...haha. This shows you the temperaments the chihuahua's from Lamars have. Never fear tho, he has that terrier like temperament too, not afraid to tackle a pit bull or great dane as they walk by...giving Lisa many gray hairs trying to keep him under control when on their walks...never a dull moment with Bubba and Chavonne.

WANNA SHOW DOG THAT CAN WIN??

Opportunities like this don't come along very often but if you want to own a show dog that is fun to show and can win, here she is. Bubbles is being offered for sale. You won't find a dog that will make your handling look as good as she can...she shows herself.

Going around she shows like a million bucks and the judges just can't miss her. She was in 4 shows last week and won 2 majors and 2 points for a total of 8 points in 3 days. She went Reserve the last day only because the dog behind her kind of ran up on her and scared her a bit. We were happy with winning 3 out of 4 days though. The hard work is done for you...the majors.

The only reason she is being offered for sale is because she lives in Montana with my daughter Lari who really doesn't like going to shows, and shows up there are not numerous.

This chi girl could be your next Special. She will sell quickly, so if this is something you are looking for get ahold of Lari...you can go to our website for more info and her pedigree and photos. When her show photos get here I'll post them, if she is still available by then. http://lamarsdoghouse.homestead.com/

Two Lamar Chi's Show Well At Gray's Summit, MO

In reading show results, I was happy to see a Lamars 6 month old male puppy in his first shows went Reserve his first day and won the point the second day. Congratulations to Rider and his owner Karen Terry. He was bred by my sister, Ivy. Karen has put a lot of time and effort in socializing him and now he shows like a dream. Thanks Karen.

Then another Lamars chi, Pacco, owned by Joan Groh in Montana and bred by my daughter Lari, won Reserve to a 3 point major at the Toy Specialty there. Pacco is newly out testing the waters in the show ring and isn't doing too bad for herself. Joan also owns Antonio, who is out with Betsy Owens starting the first weekend in October. We are expecting big things from that pair and hoping for a fast finish!

PARENT WITH ALZHEIMERS

I just decided to write on a non-doggie topic today. Our Mom has senior dementia or Alzheimers. We have know it for a few years but kind of buried our heads in the sand about it trying to attribute it to everything but what it was. Three years ago a doctor told us to put Mom in a home and take her car away. Ivy and I couldn't make ourselves do it. To us, we were still seeing Mom like we always knew her NOT how she really was now. She was living totally in the past in her mind. She was depressed and crying all the time (she was living alone) and wouldn't be compliant taking her meds ( and we didn't even have her on some we should have because we knew she wouldn't take them). We weren't around her enough to really understand how bad she really was.

Finally a few things happened this summer to make us realize she was really 'gone' mentally. She didn't know our names, had visions of people...or dreams...we were never sure which. So we decided it was time to put her in an Alzheimer's facility. Of course, she cried and laid the guilt trips on us ... how can you do this to me when I raised you etc. That made us feel horrible to say the least. I wasn't real pleased with one facility and moved her to another. Didn't care for that one either for various reasons.

So I got the bright idea to quit my job and try to bring her to my house and care for her. BAD IDEA. I have come to realize you need to have special training to care for this disease. It takes more patience than one realizes. None of what they do are their fault..the repetitive questions, the wandering, not understanding direction etc. So, please...if you have a loved one and are contemplating trying to take care of them at home, think again. You really need to research it first. The hardest thing about putting them in the home is when they tell you not to come visit for 30 days. You think, man that is mean...they will think we deserted them. Again...it isn't your mom in there any more...she left long ago. I have finally come to realize that and so the mourning process has started for me. Mom is gone, but yet her shell is still here.

I now know it is time to try to find another nursing home for her. She will be happier there even though she is so paranoid about 'going to a home' for some reason that she just gets panicky when she thinks that is what we are going to do. I just don't understand that paranoia (which is common in dementia/alzheimers) when she could have people her age to visit with.

All I know is that now I feel better about putting her in a 'home' because I at least tried to care for her. It was something I had to do for me. Now I know it is time and I can live with that decision. I just wanted to share with anyone facing the same problem...of which more and more families are now days. I hope that if this helps even one family in their decision on what to do with a loved one with this disease it will have been worth it to write this.

ANOTHER LAMARS CHAMPION

I just received an email from my good friend Diana Garcia, Dresden Chihuahuas, in Florida that one of the Chi's I sold her last year has attained her Championship. This beautiful black and white long coat girl's parents are both Lamar's chihuahua's so we are so proud of her. I will attach a photo of her and then put her New Champion photo up when it comes. Congratulations Diana and Lana. Now she will enjoy the life of a princess at Diana's along with her other Lamars girl, Portia.

BUBBLES WINS AGAIN TODAY

Bubbles is on a roll...3 wins in 3 days of showing this week. Today's show dropped to 2 points but this puts her to 8 points now. Way to go Bubbles and Lari. We will be anxious to get a photo of some of these wins...altho I hear she was a bit of trouble when it came time to pose for the photographer! Wish they all showed this good!

EVE FIRST FEMALE AM. CH. IN THAILAND

My friend Joom just posted a beautiful blog about Eve. In it she notes that Eve is the first American Champion female Chihuahua to be imported to Thailand. I am honored that one of my beautiful girls was chosen to be that special Chihuahua. I am anxious for Eve to slim down a little and achieve her Thailand Championship. Joom tried to buy Eve last year and actually had her bought when Eve got pregnant. So rather than ship a pregnant girl I opted to keep her and send her a different bitch. Joom graciously agreed. But she always wanted Eve and apparently it was Eve's karma to go because one day the idea came to me I should sell her and was going to contact Joom, when lo and behold that very day here came an email from Joom saying she had the feeling to still buy Eve...would I still consider selling her! Now tell me there isn't ESP in this world!? go to joom's blog and read about Eve if you have a moment. http://saiyaikennel.blogspot.com/2008/09/evethe-first-female-amch-chihuahua-in.html

BUBBLES GETS MAJOR NUMBER TWO

Bubbles and Lari won their second 3 point major today in Bozeman, MT. Way to go!!! Judge today was Lorraine Boutwell. We have won quite a lot under Ms Boutwell and appreciate her acknowledging our dogs' quality. She is a most gracious lady to show under also. This makes the total show experience pleasurable, whether you win or lose. But of course, we prefer the winning! lol This weekend they have more shows...lets hope the winning continues.

BUBBLES WINS FIRST MAJOR

Well, not only are the Lamar's chi's winning in the Midwest but my daughter Lari, in Montana, called so happy to report that her first time showing Bubbles they go Best Opposite Sex for a 3 point major at Bozeman, MT under respected breeder judge Jane Kay. Bubbles is dynamite in a small package. She loves to show and has that outgoing temperament that everyone loves. We know Bubbles will fly to her finish this fall.

Bubbles show career was in jeopardy this summer though because she suffered a broken leg. But, thankfully the leg healed and she is fine and hasn't missed a step. Watch for more news about her!

Sandy and Glory Safely Arrive In Moscow

Monday was a busy day here. We shipped 4 dogs out of the country which is an under taking in itself! We are relieved to hear that the last two finally arrived at their new home in Russia. These two were litter sisters out of Frankie and Sugar. This litter had such interest that we are anxiously awaiting the repeat breeding to arrive in October. Anyway, Good Luck Marina with these two. We will hope they can show well for her in Russia. Marina was too tired to say much other than the puppies came out and were happy to see her. They were not afraid but were investigating. Thank goodness all arrived safe. Now I can relax. I don't think I'll do that again in one day! Wore me out too.

AVIE MADE IT TO MANILA

Eve's daughter, Avie, left the same day for her home. They both went to almost the same part of the world. It is weird that happened that way...and they flew out the same time. Avie's new owner is Simon Sim, an international judge. Simon owns two males that were owned by Lamars also and has finished a Championship in the Philippines on one and the other is getting close. So we know Avie will soon be in the show ring. Good Luck Simon. Take care of Avie. She is a sweet girl.

EVE ARRIVES SAFELY IN BANGKOK

I am pleased to report Eve (Champion Lamars New Years Eve-S) arrived safely to her new home in Bangkok with my good friend Yupayao Sakawee aka Joom! Joom said Eve made the trip in fine order and was just a little nervous. She hopes to show her to her Thailand Championship but I sent Eve a little fat so she'll have some work to do...lol
I get a puppy back next year from Eve so I will look forward to that. I can now rest easy. I worry so when my kids have to travel so far alone to a strange new land and different languages etc. But thankfully they are loved when they get there and soon adjust. Thank you Joom for giving many Lamars dogs a home with you.

SKITTLES IS A CHAMPION

The almost unbeatable little Skittles finished her Championship at Topeka, KS on Sunday August 17, 2008 with her 4th major and also went Best of Opposite Sex. Her breeder and the owner of her sire were there to watch her finish her title. She is also her sire's 12th Champion making him join the ranks of TOP PRODUCER. Congratulations to Skittles and her sire (Ch. Hurd's Prom Knight) for achieving titles from this win. Also thanks to Max Hurd for his support and breeding such fine dogs which contributed to Skittles being what she is. Skittles dam was bred by my partner and sister Ivy.

Skittles will be shown as a Special on a limited basis until she is bred sometime late in 2009. She is an outstanding representative of the breed and we hope she continues to be a tribute to the breed.

Scotch won her open class on Sunday and could have used the major but Skittles was not to be out done...even when her breeder took her in for Best of Winners. Skittles didn't know her and was a little scared without me showing her but she still won. Thanks Dorothy for taking her in for me.

LILY WINS BEST OF VARIETY TODAY

Lily won Best of Variety today in Salina, KS. What a good way to end the weekend. Hurricane Ike was raising havoc all weekend with wind and rain at the show site and it was getting worse today so Betsy, our handler, chose to not go to group and try to make it home safely. We certainly agree with that decision. Although, tomorrow we have to head down that way to ship two puppies to Russia and to go pick up Lily and take Betsy a couple more chihuahua's to show. So lets hope the storm moves thru by then. Congratulations Betsy, Lily and Ivy.

JB GARNERS ANOTHER POINT TODAY

JB garnered another point today giving him 12 points now. He is flying to his Championship and from these beautiful photos you can see why. He is pictured relaxing in the backyard and with handler and friend Kathleen Knowles.

He has this coming weekend off and then watch out...he is coming out for those last 3 points. We are all so excited about him. His dam is due to whelp this weekend. Lets hope she produces more just like him. Thank you Omar, for sending the photos. We enjoy seeing our kids!

Two More Beautiful Lamars Chihuahuas

I thought I'd share with you these beautiful photos of two more Lamars chihuahuas. Thank you Diana Garcia of Dresden Chihuahuas in Florida for sharing them with us.

Portia is the beautiful smooth coat girl lounging on the couch. She is Diana's companion and very spoiled so she probably won't see a show ring. But her litter brother, Antonio is here at Lamars to be shown to his Championship so she will keep a watchful eye on his career! Portia has already proven herself in the whelping box this summer, though. She has an outstanding litter that will make their show debuts next year.

Lana the gorgeous long coat girl needs a single point to get her Championship. Even tho I am not Lana's breeder both her sire and dam came from Lamar so she really is of our lines and I sold her to Diana. We will be anxiously waiting for news of her Championship.

Doesn't this make you want a Lamars Chihuahua???

LILY IS A CHAMPION TODAY

WOOOOHOOOO...Another Red Letter Day here at Lamars. Lily, a Lamars homebred, finished her Championship in style going Best of Variety at Salina, KS today (9/12/08) with friend Betsy Owens handling. Thank you to Judge Peggy Smith for this fine win.

This makes Champion number 5 for us so far this year and hopefully a couple more to come before the year ends. We thank all the wonderful judges for the wins on our dogs and for appreciating the quality we are trying to breed. Watch for her finishing photo soon. Photos of Lily are located in one of our earlier blog posts. Congratulations Ivy.

A short note about Lily. She was sold as a puppy and had a litter with that owner. Then the owner had a situation where she couldn't keep her so she was offered back to Ivy. Of course, Ivy quickly brought her back home. Lily had a litter earlier this year and then went on to her successful show career. Quite an accomplishment. Lily is a showman and just pretty much asks the judges to give her the points!

WATCH OUT WORLD HERE COMES GAGE

The title says it all. Gage is going to set the show world on fire we hope. It is hard to keep our excitement under control. I keep praying I don't jinx him! He is the epitome of what I have been breeding for.
This little guy has the attitude and personality you need for a show dog and all that goes with it.
I had many people wanting to buy Gage and I decided to let him go to a fellow Montanan, Shawn Jones. She will take him as far as he can go so we will have to wait to see if he indeed grows to his potential.
He will be shown at the Chicago Chihuahua National Specialty the first weekend in October by Shawn or myself. Shawn is having to do a crash course on lead breaking him. I didn't get this litter lead broke because I have my mom here to take care of with Alzheimers. That is a full time job in itself.
I may try to get Dreamy (gage's litter sister) lead broke in time to go also along with their half brother Murray. I am so excited about how their sire is producing. Frankie (Ch. Hurd's Blazin The Way At Lamar) finished easily and has had two beautiful litters so far. Of course both were out of outstanding Champion bitches.
We are expecting an exciting repeat of this breeding mid October.

JB Takes Back to Back Majors

My last Italian Greyhound male puppy to leave home just won back to back 3 point majors this past weekend (9/6 & 7) for his new owner Omar Gonzalez. JB had 5 points from the 6-9 month puppy class and 2 Best of Breed wins when he left here. Omar says he has him entered in the new two weekends but the shows are only a single point each day...meaning he could finish if his competition shows up and he beats them. We are waiting for our show photos of this outstanding IG. JB will be the foundation sire for Omar and I think he picked a good one.

Lily's 5 point major photo

Here is beautiful Lily with handler and friend Betsy Owens
winning her second major...a whopping 5 point major under
Judge Denny Mounce in Kansas City, Mo. Lily just won a
single point Sunday, Sept 7 in Des Moines. She only needs
3 more points now to finish her Championship and we are sure
she'll get those in Salina, Ks next weekend. Congratulations, Ivy.
